Progressive Discipline at Hale
Our goal for students is to practice self-discipline and accept more responsibility for their behavior. Behavior that is disruptive to the education process and infringes upon the rights of others will not be tolerated. A consistent structure for progressive consequences is utilized across all locations in the school throughout the day including during arrival/dismissal, specials, acceleration periods, lunch, and recess.
- First infraction: Warning/Redirection
- Second infraction: Classroom-issued consequence*
- Third infraction: Second level classroom-issued consequence* and parent phone call
- Fourth infraction: All of the above and referral to the office
- Severe Clause: Dangerous or extreme off-task behaviors immediately referred to the office
*Potential classroom-issued consequences may include loss of privilege, temporary alternate seating, conference with student and parent, make-up work/homework, verbal or written apology, and/or time to reflect.
As stated above, students displaying “Severe Clause” behavior will receive an immediate referral to the office and parents/guardians will be notified by the school administrator. Examples of “Severe Clause” behaviors would include: fighting; insubordination; serious verbal abuse or use of profanity or obscenity; acts that jeopardize the health, safety, and welfare of another; repeated and willful behavior that constitutes disregard for the rules and regulations of the school; and chronic behaviors involving classroom disruptions or inappropriate language.
Our goal is to teach students positive behaviors, so that all students can work in a school environment that is safe, fun, free from distraction, and conducive to maximum learning potential.
