November 28, 2018 – Principal’s Corner

Dear Hale community,

It was great to get back yesterday after our extended Thanksgiving break.  We hope you were able to find time to create memories with family and friends.  We have a great deal to be thankful for in the Hale community.

MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) Testing

Winter MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) testing begins this week.  As a reminder, each student takes one math test and one reading test during the MAP testing window.  Thank you for helping your child come to school ready to take these tests; well rested, well nourished, and feeling confident about reaching the goals set this fall.

6th Grade Parent Night at Addams Junior High

Throughout the month of November, Ms. Phelan, the assistant principal at Jane Addams Junior High has visited the elementary feeder schools in preparation for next school year.  Sixth grade students received an overview of a typical day in junior high, learned about the different elective course options and extracurricular opportunities, and had an opportunity to have their questions answered.  Next year’s scheduling is around the corner, so be on the lookout for your child’s elective selection sheet. The elective course selection sheets are due back on December 14.  In addition to helping the students adjust, the junior highs are also offering a parent night to be held on Wednesday, December 12 from 6:00-7:00pm where you can come and learn about your child’s school for next year. For our Dual Language and Chinese Immersion families, there will be a presentation from 5:30-6:00pm that will provide specific information about the program your child is enrolled in. District 54 Education Foundation

The Windy City Bulls will host a District 54 takeover night on Friday, December 14 at the Sears Center Arena in Hoffman Estates, and a portion of the proceeds from each ticket purchased will be donated back to the District 54 Education Foundation.  Click here for more information or to purchase tickets. The District 54 take-over night will feature District 54 students participating in performances and other on-court experiences before and throughout the game, and a District 54 Special Olympics basketball match at halftime. The Windy City Bulls will host an assembly at the school that sells the most tickets.

Schaumburg Parent University – December class

Schaumburg Parent University (SPU) is designed to involve more parents in the life of the school, to strengthen family relationships, and to improve parenting skills that will ultimately result in improved student success academically, socially and emotionally. There is one evening program scheduled for December. Please note that child care is always available.

Get Your Game On – December 4 –  Monopoly your game choice? Maybe Pictionary? They got nothing on this night! Come to our Family Game Night and not only will you learn new games, you are will make them from scratch! In this session families will create and play their own games; an hour of uninterrupted, no electronic, family together time. The best part is you get to take your game home with you so that the fun can continue! Parents and students in kindergarten and older are welcome. This event will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on December 4, 2018, at the District 54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg.
